Frances E. Messmer McCombs, 89, of Connersville, died Saturday evening, May 13, 2017, at Heritage House of Connersville.

Frances was born in Connersville on July 5, 1927, to Hershel Clarence and Ethel Frances Fisher Messmer. In 1945, she graduated from Connersville High School and later attended Indiana University. Following school, she worked at Hirsh's Dress Shop and Roots Blower, both in Connersville. On September 15, 1948, she was married in Brookville to Paul W. McCombs who died November 5, 2015. Frances E. Messmer McCombs, 89, of Connersville, died Saturday evening, May 13, 2017, at Heritage House of Connersville.

Frances was born in Connersville on July 5, 1927, to Hershel Clarence and Ethel Frances Fisher Messmer. In 1945, she graduated from Connersville High School and later attended Indiana University. Following school, she worked at Hirsh's Dress Shop and Roots Blower, both in Connersville. On September 15, 1948, she was married in Brookville to Paul W. McCombs who died November 5, 2015. She was employed for several years as a secretary with Paul who along with Gene and Jeannie Krepp, owned and operated Mac Machine. Frances was a 50 year member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority and many bridge clubs. She was also a former member of the Connersville Elks and Connersville Country Club. Frances loved to travel and enjoyed many winters in Naples, Florida.

Frances is survived by her children and their spouses: Eric McCombs and Doris; Janet Malone and John, all of Connersville; Lisa Huber of Wilkinson; Melanie McCarty and Ken of Anderson; her grandchildren: J.R. Malone and his wife, Christina of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Rachel Ratz and her husband, Justin of Brookville; Lauren McCombs of Greenwood, Erica McCombs of Franklin, Evan McCombs of Little Rock, Arkansas; Chase McCombs of Connersville, Stephanie Huber and her fiancé, Tony Mowery of Greenfield; Steven Huber of Muncie, Sarah Huber of Indianapolis, Kelsey McCarty of Bloomington, Allison McCarty and Griffin McCarty, both of Anderson; great-grandchildren: Reghan Ratz; Kiley Malone; Elaina Mowery, Brooklyn Ratz, Landon Malone and twin boys on the way; her brother: Donald Messmer and his wife,Sally of Connersville; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband of 67 years, Frances was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael McCombs.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Pastor Doug Barton of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery, section A. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Humane Society.
